First Week at University!

It's me again....I'm here at University waiting for my class to start.  I wanted to give you all an update of my first week at University.

Frankly, it's been....Super Great!  All my profs are men, except of course my Women's Studies.  Here's the run down of each class.

Art History.....prof seems very nice, it'll be intense reading and note taking, but the great thing about it will be that it covers my favorite era of art history 1800 - 1940's.  Impressionism is my ultimate favorite, and getting a refresher course about my favorite artists won't be too bad.

Anthropology.....prof seems really nice, a bit of a rambling speaker, but nice nonetheless.  I have 3  textbooks for this one and to tell you the truth...I think its all a bunch of bunk.  I don't really see the purpose in going to the outer stretches of the earth and learning about other cultures.  It's great if you're interested and want to put your findings on "The Nature of Things", but as every day life, I'm just trying to live in it the best I can.

Art 2031 (Object & Space 3-D) .....the prof is really nice.  Looks like an interesting class.  We'll get to do casting and working with mix media, found objects alot.  Two of the items that are required for this class is 3 tubes of silicon, and 200 feet of saran wrap.  Yeah...that's what I said....huh???  I'm looking forward to this one.

Art 2032 (Drawing 2-D) ....the prof, once again, is very nice.  He also likes to ramble, but I think he really wants us to experience the world around us to the fullest.  Our first project is making our own pin hole camera.  I'm really looking forward to this class as well.

Women's Studies 1000....the prof is from the Philippians, and is very comical and straight forward.  I'm really enjoying the text and readings.  Our first essay is due Sept. 29th, and the topic is to choose a woman who has made a difference in Canadian society.  I've chosen Agnes Macphail.  The first women to be elected to the Canadian Parliament.  She helped improve conditions in Canadian penitentiaries, among other noble things.  I'm looking forward to getting into this class as well.

So that is my week in a nut shell....I'll post pics from home.  I can't do it from here.  Catch ya later!!!

Autumn Table Runner

Hello All, I wanted to get these pics out to you before I go to class.  I made my mom a new table runner for fall.  Hope you enjoy....I'll post more later!  Gotta go......

Orientation!!! Whew!

I am exhausted.....but it was a GREAT day.  At the beginning when I was waiting for the doors to open I felt soooooooo old standing there with all of these "kids".  But when the Art department did there tour, I felt like I was home again.  I am so stoked to get back to drawing again.  The UofL is a bit of a maze and it took me some time to get around and find my classes for tomorrow, but I'll be okay.

I start off with Women's Studies, then I go right into one of my drawing classes.  I can't wait.  I think I can relate to the teachers better, because I am closer to their age than the kids are.

I always felt that if I had a second chance at art school I would do better than before.  Now that I'm a mature student who is only there for one reason...to learn all I can and do the very best I can...then I think I'll do well.  I'm not distracted by friends or boys like I was when I was 18.  My focus is my kids and learning all I can so I can be the best teacher I want to be.

Well kids...gotta get my beauty sleep.  Class starts tomorrow...and I need all the rest I can get.

University....here I come!

Tomorrow I go to my orientation and then Wednesday....school begins.  My journey to getting my degrees to become a teacher will begin.  I want to either be a Home Ec teacher (sewing) or an Art teacher.  But if I need to start out in elementary school first before I can find the right position, then I don't mind at all.  I just have always loved teaching, and now I'm gonna get the degrees that will make it so.  I just hope I will be a good teacher when it's all said and done.    I've had so much support from family and friends.  I'm so excited, anxious, nervous, glad, and scared to death.  Well, perhaps the "scared to death" is a little over dramatic, but I do have my worries.  I'm just worried that my brain won't be able to keep up to the young people there and I'll just be mush on the floor.

But if I have faith I shall not fear.  Fear is always the response to the unknown.  I went to college for 4 1/2 years so I know what to expect, but some of the courses I'll be taking, I never took in art college.  I just hope I can keep up and that I do really well.  They say it will probably take 4 years, but I plan on taking some courses over my summers as well, so I'm hoping I'll have my degrees in 3 1/2.   Wish me luck everyone, and I'll keep you posted about my adventures, good or bad.
