Hand Casts - Art 2032A - Fall 2010

This assignment was for my Art 2023A class (3-D) and we had to do cast molds of our hands.  We had to measure exactly the width, length and height of our hands and fingers.  We were to 'double' the size and do it as realistic as possible.

This was my 1st time making a life-like replica of my hand, and I think I did pretty good - I'm no Rodin, but not too bad either.

Then we had to make a silicon mold out of our clay hand. (no pictures for that one)  After the silicon had dried, we took out the clay and we poured plaster into our mold.

These were the results.  Turned out pretty well.  Just needs a little sanding.  I'm going to clean it up, maybe paint it and hang it in my studio at home, when I get one of course!

Then, we had to make one more hand from our silicon mold.  We had to choose a bonding agent and with a material that you could sift through your hands like rice or sand.  I tried a few experiments with wax and dried peas, white glue and fabric (to dense to completely dry), and melted marshmallows with dried dog food. (stank really bad)

BUT, I finally decided to line my silicon mold with Hodge Podge and pieces of fabric.  It turned out really well - as you can see!

Art Book - Art 2031A Class - Fall 2010

Below is the art book assignment that was our last assignment for the semester.  I worked on it for 2 weeks, and it was a great success.

The theme was "The Kiss" - my interpretation was all of the words or phrases in the english language that we use with the word 'kiss' in them.

I also tore each strip of fabric and wanted a faded scruffy look to it.

Enjoy!!

Teesha Moore - Fabric and Art Journaling

More pictures are to come, however, I wanted to share a YouTube video that I came across when my Art2031A class was presented with our last assignment.  We had to make a book and make multiples of it (one for each student in the class including the instructor).

I came across Teesha Moore - an exteremly talented mixed media artist that does fabric/art journals.  She shows you how to make them step by step and I LOVE HER WORK!!  Just click on the YouTube video below and then follow it through to all of her works.  She also does art journals, and shows you how to make a 16 page journal with 1 sheet of 20" x 30" of watercolour paper, with backgrounds, boarders, and college.  I know what I'm doing this Christmas!!!
Check it out all of you "crafty sewers and artists" out there....you will not be disappointed.

Teesha Moore also has a website - http://www.teeshaslandofodd.com/1/temp.html

Charcoal Animation - Art 2031A Class - Fall 2010

Here our Art 2031A class did charcoal animation.  One wall we had to remove the charcoal with an eraser and the other side we had to add charcoal.  Our instructor, David Miller, and a  student, Alex Horne, took 30 second pictures of the progression we were making as we added and removed charcoal. They both turned out really well.We did this assignment about 2 weeks ago.It was a lot of work....but oh so fun!

PinHole Camera - Art 2031A Class - FALL 2010

I'm still here....school has been crazy busy, but it's soon coming to an end for the first semester, and finally I'm able to put up some more pictures.

The picture to the left is a wooden make-up case that I bought at Value Village for my very first assignment I had in my ART 2031A (2-D Foundation - drawing & image) class I had this semester.

We were to find an object and make a pinhole camera out of it.  A container of some kind that was 'light' tight, and if it wasn't we had to make it so.  It also had to be something that we could put a very small pin hole in it to take pictures with.  This camera took beautiful miniature pictures - no bigger than your thumbnail.  The detail was wonderful.  Time consuming, but well worth the results.  Enjoy the pictures - AND more to come!

The pictures below were done with the make-up case camera you see above - they are self portraits.

Picture B below was done with another camera I had bought.  It was a tin can in the shape of a strawberry.  Sorry don't have the pic for that.  The Funky Negative, wasn't the pinhole camera, but was me using Photoshop to get a weird altered picture of the original Negative B - another self-portrait.

The picture below was also done with the strawberry camera outside on the University campas.
