Pin Hole Photography - Photo Arts I

Good Morning my friends.....well as promised a few of my photos from my Photo Arts class.  We begin with pin hole photography, again! (last year I did some pin hole photography in my Fountations class).  They really turned out well.  More to come!

Entries for Cloth, Paper, Scissors

This summer I entered the Cloth, Paper Scissors Artisan 2012 Search.  The requirements were that you had to choose a category from the 5 selections they gave, and do 3 pieces for it.  The category I chose was "Collage and Assemblage".  I did 2 canvas works and an assemblage piece.  Needless to say....I was not selected as a 2012 Cloth, Paper, Scissors artisan, but I really enjoyed the process!

I'll begin with my assemblage piece.  I call it - "Forgiveness".  As you can see in the following close-ups that follow the "77" numbers in the nest symbolize the 77 times we are to forgive one another.  The blindfold represents how sometimes we are so blind that we need to go deep within ourselves to find the strength, faith or forgiveness of ourselves in order to forgive others.   The mirror around her neck is a reflection of anyone that happens to appear in it's gaze - thus turning the task to the observer to perform "forgiveness".  The angel with open arms on top of her head is the inner voice, or the power that one has within themselves to truly do, what seems the impossible to do.  The word "Forgiveness" is pasted to her forehead as the title of the piece.

Next is one of my canvas pieces - "Under the Butterfly Tree".  The butterflies are out of pages from an old book that I painted the same colors as her eyes.  The woman is actually me, which I drew then painted with acrylic paint.  I used charcoal and graphite to shade.  I really like how this turned out.  There are jewels that I stuck all around the tree.  I wanted to give it a deep, dreamlike feel.  Sorry....but the pictures really don't do it justice.  This one was difficult to photograph.

Lastly, my 3rd piece is called, "The Silent Place".  The idea was trying to reflect time, or memory during in ones lifetime.  Sometimes experiences in our lives leave such an indelible mark on us that when we reflect on the old days it can take us to a place of silence.  At least it does for me....the noises, smells, conversations and motions around us during our experiences are no longer important, it's the memory of that experience or 'time' that is left.  The taller girl on the bike is actually my mother, with a childhood friend.

Wish me luck next year!

Artist Spotlight - Cedar Lee

Happy Tuesday everyone....
today I wanted to introduce you to a wonderful painter. - Ceder Lee www.artbycedar.com .  She's a mom with 2 babies and loves to paint.  I love her choice of subject matter, color palette, and in essence, just how she paints.  She also has a few You Tube videos (one as presented below) that are great.  Cedar not only gives great advice to all of us artists out there, but she presents her work in time-lapse and I love her style!  Please visit her site/work....it's very beautiful.

Semester in Detail

Hey kids.....just wanted to give you an update about my classes this semester.  Here it goes:

1.  Computer Science 1000A (with Labs) - the teacher is female and she's awesome.  The 1st lab we had to create a file and then a folder, and then we had to put the file in the folder, after that we had to type our name and other info on a word doc and submit it to the professor.  -  Yea!.....highly, HIGHLY technical stuff we're doing!!

2.  Anthropology 2320 (Ancient Societies) - the teacher is female and is really nice too.  She seems go on and on at times, but I'm actually learning something.  We're studying specifically the Maya and Inca cultures.

3.  Sociology 1000 - this teacher is a man and he's really good.  But I must admit the readings and discussions for the class are rather athies based.  I just enjoy the discussions and then forget the stuff that is garbage....but I like the class for only that reason.

4.  Photo Arts I - my teacher is a man and he's really good.  There is a lot of work.  We have to make our own pin hole cameras - AGAIN!!! (see Fall 2010 for explaination).  Plus we have to do our own scrapbook (art journal) for the world around us.  Take about a role of file each week using a manual camera and record the "not so obvious" things around us.....I can honestly say....I'm REALLY, REALLY, REALLY gonna like this class.  (yipeeeeeeee)

5.  English-Prose - I have a woman professor, and she is marvelous.  This is the most important class I have this semester.   I need to get above a B in order to pass, and thus to have my prerequisite for applying to the Faculty of Education next year.  This one is important.  We will be studying all kinds of Prose including Charlette Bronte's - "Jane Eyre".   How great is that....I'm looking forward to it!

Well .....there's my semester in a nutshell!

Wish me Luck

3 New Art Journal Pages

I have more Art Journal pages for you all to gander at.  I completed these awhile ago, its just taken me this long to actually put them up for all to see.

"Angel" is a watercolour and felt marker.  I never have really explored watercolour before, and I'm happy with the results.  I think I'll continue with it and see where it takes me.

"Who I Am" is comprised of magazine pictures, markers,
paints and doodling of my own words.

Detail of "Who I Am"

"I Wonder" was a lot of fun.  I used images, paint, handmade paper and markers.

100 Theme Challenge - #84 - Ghost

Here is #84 - GHOST from my 100 Theme Challenge from Digital Whisper.
The girl on the bike is my mom (with her small friend) and the "ghostly" girl is a picture I got from Morge File

Vintage Mom's Purse

May 8th was my mom's birthday, plus it was Mother's Day...she got a double wammy day.  So I made her a purse to put her wallet in.  I hope you enjoy the pics as much as she enjoyed the purse.

The pink fabric on the left side of the purse is cotton dyed with beet juice.

The buckle on the purse flap are fake dimonds, but I liked that it gives it some bling bling.

I sewed beads to the wings and the baby is a free picture I found on the internet.

Art Journal Cards

Hello, it's me again.  Sorry for the big gap in writing.  My finals were taking up some time, and now that the 2nd semester is over...I can now put up my Art Journal Cards I did for all of my classmates in my Gender Issues in Art and Art History class.  Each student had to do a 15 min. presentation.  They had to choose a feminine image and discuss it from a feminist point of view.  My presentation was about Art Journaling.

And so I made each one of these Art Journal cards (large recipe card size) and on the back of each I put the websites of all of the Art Journal artists I presented - there was 9! (Teesha Moore, Pam Carriker, Carrie Todd, Susie LaFond, Suzan Buckner, LK Ludwig, Natalie Malik, Misty Mawn, and Lynne Perrella) - So these are them and I hope you enjoy!

Oh....Just as a closing note....my marks were as follows for the 2nd semester,

Gender Issues in Art and Art History - A+
          Psychology 1000 - B-
          Drawing I - A-
          Digital Studio - A-
          GPA - 3.61

I start my summer semester May 9th - Education 2500, English - Science Fiction and Epic Tradition, and Introduction to Music.

Then in September 2011 I go into my second year with 5 courses.
          Computer Science 1000
          Photo Arts
          Sociology 1000
          English - Pros Fiction
